Rail Racers from the Brooklands Museum
by Jeff Davies
Jan. 15, 2005
In August 2000, the Brooklands Motosport and Aviation Museum
hosted a step backwards in time - rail racing! Jeff Davies built a rail racing track in the 1955 style.
Slot car and modeling enthusiasts were selected to restore or re-create model car rail racers,
according to the 45-year old specs. Rail Racing events were held to memorialize the Southport Rail Races,
the first rail racing event ever. This retro regress was a great success!
Jeff Davies, author of the book Built with Passion: The Story of Rail Racing, has been kind
enough to contribute four pages of pictures of historic, restored rail racers, and new rail racers built in the vintage style.
There is more information at the website
The National Rail Racing Association.
