Like every year the tombola ended Saturday's racing with a lot of prizes. Thanks to the
sponsors everybody received prizes which exceeded the starting fees by far. As one of the
last to choose my prize was an Abarth resine kit, a Schoeler Chassis, a decal sheet,
rims, tires. The day ended after a late night "dinner" at the nearby
Argentine steakhouse ...
Sunday
Well, we had an early breakfast - we wanted as much time as possible to get a
good set-up, especially because the grip of the track usually changes dramatically
during Sunday morning pratice. To get usable results as early as possible the
"26D-gang" did most of the "track cleaning"
[all the race cars before used Wiesel/Ortmann rubber tires which nearly polish the track]
by running on all lanes to get some rubber on the track surface. For the first 20 minutes
everybody was sliding - even on the straights.
Superslot
With vac body and foam tires this class is the "natural domain" of the "26D-gang".
The load of the favorite had to be on my shoulders because I won the race in 2001
and 2002. Of course my biggest wish for this weekend was to win this race to make
the hat-trick [but with the unexpected win of the F1 race all was done to make me happy].
Unluckily I'm not a very talented driver so my cars have to do all the work. This time
my Segura Chevron B6 [3rd at Mettmann 2002] work pretty well on the Greyhound track but
because of it's superior drivability I decided to use my "old winner" again,
a Chaparral 2H with a mysterious piano wire chassis.
But with Tommy's powerful jailhouse
chassied McLaren, Matthias' new Carrera LaBostella, Johannes' Chaparral 2H Riggen
[which I build as a sister car] and Juergen Stuedemann's King Cobra
[with Friday's super fast Cucaracha chassis] another win seemed to be out of reach.
In qualifying last year's successful tactic was repeated and I went for the slowest group.
It makes overtaking much easier [but more often] and enables me to concentrate more on driving
[in my eyes a driving situation more like qualifying].
